The Regina man charged in connection with a bomb scare at the east Regina Superstore in July of 2021 has been handed a conditional sentence.
Court documents say Kyle Poag was given an 18-month conditional sentence and 18 months probation during an appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Friday. He also was given a 10-year firearms prohibition.
On the morning of July 9, 2021, Regina police got a call from a person in the 2000 block of Prince of Wales Drive reporting a possible explosive device at the Superstore.
According to a media release after the incident, explosive disposal units from the Regina Police Service and the RCMP were called and found what police called “items dangerous to the public” in a vehicle in the parking lot and in the store.
Part of Victoria Avenue East was shut down while members of the bomb squad dealt with the vehicle. A second team removed “an item” before taking it to a secure location and destroying it.
During Poag’s first court appearance, those items were said to be a pipebomb and a Molotov cocktail.
Most of Poag’s court appearances since the incident have been in Mental Health Court.
