Foul play isn’t suspected in the death of an inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre.
According to a release from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the 39-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell. Staff tried to help him, but paramedics pronounced him dead just before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The ministry’s release didn’t reveal a cause of death, but did say it wasn’t related to COVID-19. The release also didn’t identify the man other than to say he was on remand at the jail.
The RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating, as is the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
