A 26-year-old Regina man is facing a lengthy list of gun and drug charges after what started as a police investigation into a suspicious vehicle.
According to police, officers first spotted the suspicious vehicle being driven near 6th Avenue and Princess Street on Tuesday night. The officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver managed to get away.
A short time later, police found the vehicle parked and running, but unoccupied, on McTavish Street. Inside, police found a firearm and ammunition, and a police dog team tracked the suspect to a garage on Montague Street.
“The Police Service Dog did not make contact with the male and he was brought into custody without incident,” police said in a statement.
Police said the suspect was carrying drugs when he was arrested, and the vehicle he had allegedly been driving was later found to be stolen.
The 26-year-old suspect is now facing a number of gun- and drug-related charges, along with possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing a peace officer, and breaching conditions of a release order. He was scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday afternoon, police said.
