SaskTel Internet customers are normally able to use their SaskTel email address for free.
Those days will soon be over, as SaskTel will start charging customers $1.95 per month for each sasktel.net email address they have.
The Crown corporation says in a message sent out to customers the change will take effect on April 21.
“(Customers) will see this price change and applicable prorated charges on their first bill after this date,” SaskTel said in the message.
The company responded to a request for comment with a statement.
“SaskTel understands how important email accounts and addresses may be to some, and in order to provide customers with ample notice of this planned rate change, SaskTel has begun communicating to impacted customers,” it said.
“SaskTel had issued a stop sell of the service in January 2022 since there are many free alternatives available (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.).”
980 CJME also contacted Access Communications and Shaw Communications to ask them whether they’ll also be raising prices.
Access Communications says in an email sent to 980 CJME “one of the many benefits of choosing Access Communications Co-operative and (its) internet services has been (its) complimentary @myaccess.ca email address (and) email addresses will continue to be free to (its) residential subscribers”.
Shaw hasn’t responded by the time of publication.
