Two men have been charged in an investigation that ended up with police seizing a plastic egg filled with crack cocaine.
The RCMP made the arrests following a December incident in a Beauval bar, involving two masked men threatening the bar’s patrons with a firearm and a machete.
After an investigation and search, a 27-year-old man from Canoe Lake and a 40-year-old man from Prince Albert were arrested.
The initial incident happened Dec. 14 at a bar in Beauval, but the RCMP said it was not reported to police until Dec. 23. No injuries were reported.
The 40-year-old was arrested on Jan. 13, after the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team discovered the two suspects were staying at a home in Canoe Lake.
Police found him in a backyard at the home and made the arrest without incident. Police found a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a machete, seven individual bags of crack cocaine hidden in a plastic egg container, seven grams of crack cocaine wrapped in foil, 11 grams of marijuana, and cash.
Police were returning to the home on Sunday and saw a black van that was at the residence when the first man was arrested. After pulling over the van, police found the Canoe Lake man hiding in the back under blankets. The other two occupants in the van were released without charges.
As a result of the investigation, the Canoe Lake man was charged with attempting to take a weapon in possession of a police officer, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
The Prince Albert man was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a shotgun knowing the serial number was removed, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of ammunition while prohibited, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of cocaine.
