Regina police say an officer tried to use his Taser on a man who allegedly charged at officers Tuesday night.
In a media release Wednesday, police said the incident happened just after 9 p.m. when officers were called to a disturbance on Flamingo Crescent in the Whitmore Park area. Police were told a 31-year-old man had a weapon and was acting erratically.
The police release didn’t say what kind of weapon the man had.
According to police, when officers arrived the man “charged at the police vehicle with the weapon.” He eventually dropped the weapon, police said, but then he started toward the officers again. At that point, one of the officers used his Taser on the man.
Police say the Taser alone didn’t stop the man, but the officers still were able to take him into custody. Paramedics assessed the man and determined he didn’t have any injuries.
The incident is under investigation and charges are pending.
All Taser deployments are reviewed by the Regina Police Service’s Use of Force Committee and also are reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
