The Saskatoon Blades played leapfrog with the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday.
The Blades beat the visiting Winnipeg Ice 3-2 to improve to 31-12-3-1, moving Saskatoon one point ahead of the idle Warriors (31-16-0-3) in the race for third place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
Ethan Chadwick made 34 saves at SaskTel Centre as Saskatoon snapped a three-game losing streak to the Ice.
Connor McClennon opened the scoring for Winnipeg at 3:17 of the first period and the Ice took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Brandon Lisowsky scored on a 5-on-3 power play at 13:09 of the second period to tie the game. Then, with the Blades still on the power play, Egor Sidorov sniped at 14:16 to give Saskatoon a 2-1 lead.
McClennon’s second goal of the game, this one a power-play tally, tied the score at 15:52 of the middle frame. But Jake Chiasson gave the Blades the lead again at 3:21 of the third and Chadwick made the lead stand up with 15 saves in the third period.
Daniel Hauser stopped 21 shots for Winnipeg (37-7-1-0), which still holds first place in the conference.
The Blades are to play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday, 4 p.m., at SaskTel Centre.
