This year’s Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Prairie region awards saw 650 CKOM and 980 CJME each pick up a pair of honours.
Gerald Bauman and David Kirton won the Byron MacGregor Award for Best Newscast in a medium market for their work on the 650 CKOM Midday Report.
650 CKOM also won the Gord Sinclair Award for Live Special Events on behalf of all six Rawlco Radio stations in Saskatchewan. That award was presented for Rawlco’s Day of Caring for Fort McMurray, which raised over $700,000 for relief efforts in that city in the wake of a devastating wildfire.
In Regina, 980 CJME won the RTDNA’s Sam Ross Award for Editorial/Commentary for the Saying Farewell piece commemorating Taylor Field.
Kevin Martel’s Election IQ edition of Martel on the Move also won the Dave Rogers Award for a Short Feature in a small/medium market.
