Conservation group seeks leads in suspected moose poaching

A shocking photo circulating online has drawn attention to Saskatchewan’s poaching problem.
 
The SaskTip charity group posted a photo Sunday showing a moose cow and calf that were reportedly left to rot on private land about 10 kilometres southeast of Alvena, approximately 60 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
 
The post states that only the hind quarters and fleshy part of the nose were taken off the cow moose carcass. The calf was apparently cut out of the cow’s body and did not survive
 
Evidence at the scene reportedly suggested that the suspects’ vehicle got stuck in the same field.
 
Two men were reportedly approaching landowners in the area that afternoon for help with a stuck truck.
 
They were described as First Nations men in their late 30’s.
 
While the two aren’t confirmed as suspects in the poaching incident, the timing of their truck getting stuck and the evidence of a vehicle apparently stuck near where the carcasses were found led SaskTip to report that they may be persons of interest to authorities.

SaskTip is a registered charity that maintains a reward fund to help catch suspected poachers, similar to the well-known CrimeStoppers program that encourages people to report criminal offences.
