The City of Regina is 25 acres smaller than it used to be.
In a media release Monday, the city announced it had reached an agreement with the Rural Municipality of Sherwood to alter the boundary between the two. As a result of the deal, 25 acres of land west of Regina adjacent to General Road are moving from within Regina’s city limits to the RM’s jurisdiction.
According to the release, the request to alter the boundaries was made by the RM on behalf of two companies that want to expand their operations within the rural municipality.
“This boundary alteration reflects good regional planning and co-operation by supporting the growth of existing businesses within Greater Regina Area,” Mayor Sandra Masters said in the release. “It aligns with the city’s strategic priority to encourage and advance economic development opportunities.”
“We look forward to the increased economic activity this alteration will bring to both the RM and the city through capital investments in plant expansions and job growth,” Reeve Susan Oakley-Paul added.
The RM is to pay $5,284.65 to the city as tax loss compensation.
