Saskatchewan Polytechnic won’t be going viral on TikTok anytime soon.
The post-secondary institution has prohibited the social media video-sharing app on school-owned devices, according to a statement. The policy takes effect immediately.
The move follows similar decisions by the federal and provincial governments, which banned the app from government devices in recent weeks while the platform — which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance — is under investigation by the federal privacy commissioner.
Sask. Polytechnic said it continues to follow the best practices in its policies and procedures to detect, mitigate and protect against cybersecurity threats.
The City of Regina has also banned TikTok from city-owned devices.
