The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has provided an update on the investigation into four suspended Moose Jaw Warriors players.
In an email to Discover Moose Jaw, the EPS says the incident in question was deemed not “criminal in nature” and the investigation has concluded.
That was all the details the police provided; they did not go into specifics on the matter.
On Feb. 11, it was announced that Connor Ungar, Max Wanner, Lynden Lakovic and Marek Howell were suspended pending an investigation by the league for possible violations of team rules and the WHL Standard of Conduct policies.
As of Thursday morning, the WHL had not announced if the players will be returning to the Warriors’ bench and if the league has concluded its internal investigation.
A spokesperson for the WHL has not responded to several requests for updates on the status of the players and the league’s investigation.
Prior to the suspension, Ungar was having a career year in the Warriors’ net, posting a 26-7-0-3 record with a 2.58 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in 38 games this season.
Wanner, 19, is an Edmonton Oilers draft pick who has eight goals and 22 assists this season.
For Howell and Lakovic, this is their first full WHL season. Howell has produced one goal and three assists in 44 games. Lakovic has notched two goals and five assists in 37 games.
