Three people – two of which are from Moose Jaw, are facing fraud-related charges, after being caught trying to use fake gift cards in Swift Current.
39-year-old Michael Joel McKechnie and 37-year-old Nicole Marie Belsher of Moose Jaw and 39-year-old Christopher Johnathan Nesvold of Saskatoon are facing multiple counts of fraud.
On March 27, the Swift Current RCMP was notified by a local business of possible fraud, after the three individuals used suspicious gift cards.
Following being notified the RCMP was able to identify, locate, and arrest the three individuals and seized several suspected fake gift cards.
The police were able to secure a search warrant for a vehicle and hotel room associated with the three individuals and seized a number of gift cards, along with equipment believed to be used to produce the fakes.
McKechnie and Belsher are each facing:
- One count of fraud not exceeding $5,000
- One count of using a forged document
Nesvold is facing the following charges:
- One count of fraud not exceeding $5,000
- One count of using a forged document
- One count of failing to comply with a release condition
McKechnie and Belsher were released on conditions and will have to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Apr. 26.
Nesvold was held and appeared in provincial court on Wednesday.
