Even though the fallout from the Experience Regina campaign continues, there won’t be a special city council meeting Thursday to look into it.
Last week, 980 CJME obtained a copy of a Notice of Motion in which six members of city council appeared to request a special meeting to take a closer look at parts of the Experience Regina branding and slogans that became oversexualized.
The motion called for a council meeting to be held Thursday at 9 a.m.
However, when Mayor Sandra Masters was a guest on the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Thursday, she said the Notice of Motion was confidential, it wasn’t signed by any of the six councillors, and it wasn’t filed with the city clerk’s office. That meant there wasn’t a special meeting scheduled.
“We’re not sure how that (document) got leaked,” she said.
That said, the mayor is confident the board of Regina Exhibition Association Limited will look into the controversial rebranding of the former Tourism Regina.
“I think the board needs to understand where the gaps existed in their procedures and process and I think they need to fix whatever happened … and however it was allowed … for the website to go live without proper oversight,” Masters said.
Masters said city council will await the board’s review and she believes the board of REAL will hire an independent investigator to look into what happened.
“Eventually, something will come to council and it will be public,” she added.
