The City of Regina is ready to “gopher” broke in its war on pests.
Since the Government of Saskatchewan has declared gophers as pests, the city has to control the animals on publicly owned property. To that end, 23 areas in the city have been identified for the application of Rozol RTU to eliminate gophers.
“Spring is the best time for application as the gophers emerge from their burrows in search of food,” the city said in a release Monday. “The program will start this week and continue for the next several weeks.”
The city said signs will be erected and workers will visit the sites daily for several weeks after the substance is applied. The signs will stay up for several weeks until staff are sure the site is clear of product and gophers.
The release reminded people to avoid areas where the product has been applied, particularly if they’re with children and pets.
The city said Rozol RTU will be applied in rough turf areas along storm channels and roadway and railway buffers. It won’t be used on the city’s athletic fields or traditional park spaces.
