Two teens are facing charges after a shooting involving a BB gun outside a Regina school on Wednesday.
According to police, officers with the Community Engagement Unit received a report that “a group of three females had been shot at” just after 11 a.m.
“Early information stated the victims were standing outside the school when a suspect shot at them from a vehicle,” police said in a statement.
“One victim was struck but was not physically injured. The school was put in lockdown for a brief time and multiple Patrol units and School Resource Officers were dispatched to the location.”
The lockdown was lifted in the early afternoon. Police did not say which school was involved, but Scott Collegiate is located in the 3300 block of Sixth Avenue where police said the shooting took place.
The investigation led officers to a home on Empress Street, where they spotted a vehicle matching a description of the one used during the shooting.
Police surrounded the home, and two nearby schools were placed into “secure-the-building mode” as a precaution.
Ultimately, a 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman were arrested and charged with discharging an air gun or pistol with intent and assault with a weapon. The woman was also charged with uttering threats. Both appeared in provincial court Thursday morning, police said.
“Ongoing police investigation determined the firearm used in the offence was a BB gun,” police said.
The police service said its investigation remains open, and more information will be released when it becomes available.
