A 14-year-old Regina boy is facing a charge of aggravated assault after allegedly hitting another boy and then attacking him with what police called “a bladed weapon.”
Police said officers were called to a location on 12th Avenue on Tuesday evening after the 14-year-old approached a 15-year-old boy, struck him, then assaulted him with a bladed weapon before fleeing.
The 15-year-old suffered an injury described as serious but not life-threatening, and was taken to hospital, police said.
Officers searched the area, and found the 14-year-old boy at the intersection of Saskatchewan Drive and Hamilton Street.
“The male fled from police but was subsequently arrested,” police said in a statement. “While in handcuffs the male attempted to escape custody, and was apprehended a short distance away.”
The weapon used in the alleged attack was not recovered, police noted.
The 14-year-old — who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act — is now facing charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon. Police said he made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
