A Regina man found himself in handcuffs Thursday after allegedly stealing a car and crashing into a cyclist.
According to police, officers were called to the 1000 block of Robinson Street at about 4:30 a.m. after getting reports that a cyclist had been hit by a vehicle.
“When officers arrived, they located a male victim walking down the street who said his car had been stolen,” police said in a statement.
“Information provided to police stated that a suspect male had threatened the victim, entered the victim’s vehicle, drove away and struck a cyclist.”
Police said the cyclist was no longer present when officers and paramedics arrived, and “attempts to locate the victim were not successful.”
Patrol officers caught up with the 23-year-old alleged carjacker at a home in the same block of Robinson Street where the cyclist was allegedly struck. The suspect was arrested and now faces a charge of robbery.
Police asked anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
