A 17-year-old boy is facing more than 50 charges in connection with a string of break-ins in Regina.
According to police, their investigation began in early May after a number of break-ins that had what police called “similar methods of operation.” The break-ins started in the northwest area of the city before expanding into other areas.
“The break and enters resulted in the theft of personal belongings of the victims, including vehicles and identification and banking documents,” police said in a release. “The most recent occurrence resulted in the theft of multiple firearms.”
Police were able to identify a suspect and he was arrested on Tuesday.
The teen, who can’t be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with: 17 counts of failing to comply; nine counts of break, enter and commit theft; eight counts of possessing a firearm/ammunition contrary to a prohibition order; four counts of fraud under $5,000; three counts each of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, and possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition; two counts of theft under $5,000; and one count each of mischief under $5,000, break, enter and steal a firearm; and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The teen made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
