What to look for on Canada Day in Regina

As usual, there will be no shortage of activities for Canada Day in the Queen City.

In the morning, people can look forward to a free pancake breakfast at Wascana Park from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The main stage area at the park will feature several performances throughout the day:

• 1:20 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.: D’arcy Playground
• 2:40 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.: The People
• 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Big Bad Storm
• 5:20 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Epic
• 6:50 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Grimstone
• 8:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.: Cory Marks

There will also be family-friendly entertainment on the Regina Public Library family stage:

• 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.: RCCA Red Leaves Performing Arts Group
• 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Métis Stars
• 1:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.: Storytelling Tuo Duo Rhonda Donais and Matt Totten
• 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Afro Dance Team
• 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.: Mr. Mark
• 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Tavria Ukrainian Folk Dance Ensemble
• 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.: Magician Sitruc James

The RPL will host a pop-up library.

Strongman fans will be pleased to hear that 14 athletes will be competing in the Classic Strongman Champion League competition, which will once again be hosted in Wascana.

And of course, the firework show is expected to start at 10:30 p.m.

The Regina Police Service said that in advance of the fireworks, Albert Street between College Avenue and Regina Avenue will be closed starting at 9 p.m.

“Regina Police reminds drivers to not park illegally or stop vehicles on the road to watch the fireworks, with emphasis on the Highway 1 bypass between Assiniboine Avenue and Wascana Parkway, as well as on Broad Street between College Avenue and Lakeshore Drive,” the police said in a release.

Wascana Centre won’t be the only place hosting events for Canada Day. A celebration will be held at the Government House hosted by Lt.-Gov. Russ Mirasty and his wife, Donna. It will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., featuring a show on the mains stage.

• 1:30 p.m. — Hoop dancer Terrance Littletent
• 2 p.m. — Greetings from the lieutenant-governor and singing of O Canada
• 2:15 p.m. — Singer/songwriter/fiddler/guitarist Donny Parenteau & Band
• 3:15 p.m. — The Philippine Association of Saskatchewan Dancers

Outdoor entertainment and activities will also run through the afternoon at Government House.

• 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. — KAOS Dogsports
• 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Storybook Princesses & Superheroes
• 2:10 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. — Saskatchewan Science Centre shows
• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Métis finger weaving
• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — HMCS Queen bouncy castle
• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Girl Guides bubble blowing
• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Face painting

Further activities will run inside Government House, including performances by the Regina Classical Guitar Society, the Government House Historical Society collectibles and vintage sale, a Treaties exhibit, the Retreat to Morning Lake art exhibit in the QEII Art Gallery and the Amédée Forget Museum.

Food and drinks will include complimentary popcorn, barley sugar pops, lemonade and water for visitors. Burgers, hot dogs, chips, snow cones and soft drinks will be available for purchase.
