Regina’s police plane played a part in the arrests of two men whom police say tried to steal a man’s motorcycle and then torched a truck after a second robbery.
According to police, officers responded Thursday at about 8:30 p.m., to the intersection of McIntosh Street North and Donnelly Crescent for a call about an attempted armed robbery.
Police were told two suspects in a car drove up to a man riding a motorcycle and bumped into the motorbike, causing it to stall.
“The suspect driver then pointed a firearm at the victim while the passenger grabbed the motorbike,” police said in a release. “The passenger failed to get the motorbike to drive, then got back into the vehicle and drove away. The occupants of the vehicle threatened the victim, then drove away again.”
Shortly after that, police got a call that a truck was on fire north of the city.
Officers who responded were told a man was driving the truck when two males in a car — which police say matched the description of the vehicle involved in the incident with the motorbike — forced the truck driver to stop.
“The driver of the suspect vehicle pointed a firearm at the victim, demanded his belongings, and threatened to kill the victim,” the release said. “The suspects took the belongings, and threw an ignited object into the truck sunroof, then drove away.”
Neither of the victims was hurt.
The police plane located the suspects’ car and RCMP officers put out a spike belt to stop the vehicle. A 26-year-old man from Fort Qu’Appelle and a 16-year-old youth were arrested.
The man was charged with three counts of pointing a firearm, two counts each of robbery using a firearm and uttering threats, and one count each of dangerous driving, arson and failing to comply with the conditions of a release order.
The teen faces six charges, with two counts each of robbery using a firearm and uttering threats, and one count each of arson and failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
They made their first court appearances Friday.
