A wild animal rehabilitation clinic in Regina is looking to improve conditions at its facility.
To help out, an anonymous donor has agreed to match every dollar donated to Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Centre up to a total of $100,000 until Aug. 31.
Salthaven West is a facility that helps sick, injured and orphaned wild birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The rehabilitation clinic serves wild animals across southern Saskatchewan.
It currently serves more than 1,500 animals in its 600-square-foot clinic, but needs a larger facility to meet the demands for more animals.
“The urgent need for a new facility cannot be overstated,” Megan Lawrence, the facility’s director, said in a media release. “Our current clinic is unable to manage the increasing number of wildlife patients in southern Saskatchewan.
“The success of this fundraiser will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our local wildlife for years to come.”
In the release, the clinic said it needs to expand to meet growing conservational needs as climate change and urban developments continue. The clinic’s goal is to rehabilitate and release healthy wild animals into the wild.
