A Candle Lake man is facing 16 criminal charges after an alleged assault, which led police to uncover a trove of guns and ammunition at his home.
According to the RCMP, officers responded to a “report of an assault with a firearm present” outside a home in Candle Lake on Aug. 10. A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and was released on an undertaking the next morning.
Then, on Tuesday, RCMP officers executed a search warrant at the man’s home, which led to “the seizure of 23 firearms, a crossbow and approximately 100,000 rounds of ammunition.”
The man was arrested again after the search, and was set to appear Monday morning in a Nipawin court.
The criminal charges against him include pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, possession of unauthorized firearms, and possession of a prohibited firearm.
