The Regina Police Service is asking for the public’s help as it takes a look at itself and at crime in the Queen City.
The seventh version of the RPS Community Perception Survey was launched Wednesday. The last such survey was conducted in 2021.
A group of researchers from the University of Regina and Prairie Research Associates will be looking for feedback from selected members of the public about the police service and crime trends in the city.
According to a release from the police service Wednesday, researchers will be phoning people in the community who were randomly selected through their postal codes.
Employees of Prairie Research Associates will ask questions concerning seven general topics: Police effectiveness; police responsiveness; visibility and presence of police; fear of crime; trust and confidence in police; traffic enforcement; and perceptions of the police service’s use of social media.
“The Regina Police Service wants to reassure residents that this is a legitimate survey and part of the Service’s ongoing commitment to gather public input,” the police release said. “We encourage residents who are contacted for this survey to take advantage of this important opportunity to provide their feedback.”
Employees of the police service, or people who live with someone who currently works for the service, won’t be allowed to participate in the survey.
Anyone with concerns or questions about the survey can call the police service at 306-777-6500.

The Moose Jaw Police Service also announced Wednesday that it was launching a similar survey. The last time the survey was done in Moose Jaw was 2019.
