Sask. police fine drivers for faulty signal, headlights in 2023

Police in Saskatchewan have regularly turned on their emergency lights in 2023 to flag down drivers with faulty headlights, taillights and signal lights.

According to the RCMP, since the beginning of the year, officers from Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan have laid 254 charges and handed out 2,615 warnings to drivers in the province for headlight, taillight or turn signal violations.

The total includes:

• 74 charges and 1,427 warnings for inadequate headlights or daytime running lights;
• 127 charges and 917 warning for inadequate vehicle brake lights;
• 15 charges and 73 warnings for inadequate vehicle turn signals; and
• 38 charges and 198 warnings for inadequate trailer brake lights or turn signals.

Officers also issued 480 vehicle defect inspection notices, forcing drivers to get repairs done and to report to an RCMP detachment to prove that the work was completed.

The RCMP reminded people to clear dirt, mud and snow off their vehicle’s headlights, taillights and turn signals.

Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan comprises officers from the Saskatchewan RCMP as well as municipal police services.
