The City of Regina’s replacement of water meters is running into Ward 1.
Customers in that ward – located in the south end of Regina – are to get a letter introducing the project as well as a brochure that tells them the mechanism for scheduling an appointment to have the work done.
Replacements were started in Ward 4 in July after crews upgraded the meters in wards 5, 6 and 7. The project began last October and is expected to cost approximately $42.5 million over a five-year period.
“The new meters will collect information about water use more frequently, enabling customers to manage and conserve water, as well as help detect leaks,” the city said in a media release.
“The new water meter technology promotes environmental sustainability by eliminating the need for the meter reading vehicles that are currently used to collect drive-by meter reads. This will result in a community reduction of approximately 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.”
A new online service is to be introduced next year that will allow customers to see their account information and their household water usage, and get timely water meter reads. The service also will feature electronic notifications about planned water outages and consumption alerts for high water usage.
