A woman allegedly struck a taxicab and injured the driver while speeding through Regina on Tuesday night.
According to police, officers were patrolling near Angus Street and Sixth Avenue when they spotted a vehicle that was reportedly connected to a recent assault case.
The police plane was quickly called in to track the vehicle “as it was travelling at high rates of speed throughout the north central area,” police said in a statement.
“At one point, the suspect vehicle ran a red light at Albert Street and Third Avenue, colliding with a taxicab at the intersection.”
Police said the cab driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, and was treated on the scene by paramedics. A passenger in the taxi wasn’t hurt.
“Despite extensive damage to the vehicle, the female driver did not stop at the scene of the collision,” police said. “She carried on at high rates of speed throughout the north end of the city and onto Highway 6 before coming to stop on Saunders Crescent.”
The police Air Support Unit directed officers to Kumar Lane, where three of the vehicle’s occupants were arrested. The female driver was found “hiding alongside a house in the area,” while the two remaining passengers were found hiding in tall grass near Aitken Crescent. Police also recovered a firearm, three “bladed weapons,” and bear spray.
All five suspects are now facing criminal charges.
