The Saskatchewan Roughriders are looking to capitalize on an opportunity in the nation’s capital.
The Riders (6-7-0) will try to end a two-game CFL losing streak on Friday when they visit the Ottawa Redblacks, who own a CFL-worst 3-10-0 record.
Saskatchewan is coming off a 36-27 loss to the Edmonton Elks on Sept. 15. That defeat was preceded by a 51-6 beatdown at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sept. 9.
The Roughriders haven’t won a road game since June 24, when they beat the host Calgary Stampeders 29-26. Saskatchewan has lost four straight away games and has been outscored 142-40 in those contests.
The Green and White won the first meeting with Ottawa this season, prevailing 26-24 at home on Aug. 6.
One of the biggest issues for the Roughriders of late is their run defence. They’ve surrendered 528 yards rushing over the past two games – 263 to the Bombers and 265 to the Elks.
Saskatchewan’s defence enters the week ranked sixth in the CFL in run defence, allowing 121.8 yards per game. Ottawa – led by dual-threat quarterback Dustin Crum — goes into the week with the league’s third-best rushing offence, at 131.3 yards per game.
Jake Dolegala is to make his fifth straight start as the Roughriders’ quarterback this season. He has a 2-2-0 record since taking over for Mason Fine, who has returned from a hamstring injury to be the backup.
