The City of Regina said the downtown fire of a heritage building was deliberately set.
Friday, the city sent out a written statement saying Regina Fire and Protective Services had completed its investigation into the Gordon Block Building fire on 12th Avenue that had been set ablaze last Sunday.
“The investigation confirmed the building was clear of any occupants and determined the cause of this fire was incendiary or deliberately set, with the area of origin located inside the main entrance of the building,” the statement read.
The statement also said that Regina Fire will continue to work with Regina Police Service to determine the circumstances involved with the fire.
According to the city, control of the scene was returned to the property owners on Friday morning.
The fire has displaced the Regina Farmers’ Market, causing it to move to two locations for the remainder of its outdoor season.
