With a brand-new bison logo ready for the 2024 season, the Saskatchewan Rush still need to find one missing piece – a name for the team’s new mascot.
The National Lacrosse League team unveiled the new logo last month, which the Rush said better represents the history and culture of Saskatchewan. The team said the bison head is a tribute to First Nations culture, while other elements were inspired by the former Saskatchewan Wheat Pool logo that’s still visible on grain elevators across the province.
The Rush relocated to Saskatoon from Edmonton for the 2016 season, and this is the first big image makeover since the move.
With a new mascot to go along with the logo, the team is taking a public poll to determine the name of the bright-green bison which will be whipping up fans during the games.
Options on the online poll include Bash, Buff, Horny, Franklin, Thunderhoof, Rowdy and Charger.
In a social media post Wednesday, the team said 602 responses have come in so far, with Horny leading the charge with almost half the votes. Rowdy is the second most popular pick, with 15.45 per cent of the votes. The Rochester Knighthawks, another NLL franchise, shared a social media post of their own, supporting Horny as the winning name.
The Rush preseason opens with a game Nov. 25 against the Calgary Roughnecks to be played in Moose Jaw. The regular-season home opener against the Knighthawks is set for Dec. 9.
