A Moose Jaw woman is in hot water after allegedly lying about having a terminal illness – and collecting a lot of dough from the community through fundraisers.
According to the Moose Jaw Police Service, 28-year-old Katelyn Marie Ann Carle is facing 53 counts of fraud under $5,000 after collecting about $16,000 from local businesses and community members through organized fundraisers held between December of 2021 and January of 2022.

“Those individuals who assisted in organizing the fundraisers were not complicit in these offences,” the police service said in a statement.
“The Moose Jaw Police Service is in the process of contacting the victims of these offences. If you have not been contacted and believe you have been defrauded by this individual, please contact the Moose Jaw Police Service at (306) 694-7600.”
Carle is set to appear in court in Moose Jaw later this year to answer the charges, police said.
