A stolen pickup truck in Prince Albert led Mounties to arrest two wanted men at a Melfort home.
According to the RCMP, the whole incident started early Monday morning with a call about a vehicle theft in P.A. On Wednesday, the Mounties said officers spotted the stolen pickup on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation, but the driver took off from an attempted traffic stop.
Later on Wednesday, RCMP officers tracked the vehicle to a home on Park Bay East in Melfort where two men – whom police say were both wanted on warrants – were arrested with help from the RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team.
“A search warrant was then executed at the residence; officers located and seized a loaded, modified prohibited firearm,” the RCMP said in a statement.
Both men – a 32-year-old from Sturgeon Lake First Nation and a 49-year-old from Melfort – have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The Sturgeon Lake man was also charged with driving while prohibited, and the Melfort man is facing a single count of trafficking in property obtained by crime.
“The investigation continues and further updates will be provided when available,” the RCMP said.
