The Canada West football all-stars were announced Monday, with six members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and one University of Regina Ram being selected.
While the UBC Thunderbirds led the way with 14 selections, the Huskies’ six were tied with the University of Alberta Golden Bears for second-most.
The U of S players selected were receiver Daniel Perry, linebacker Nick Wiebe, defensive linemen Nathan Jule and George Idoko, and defensive backs Katley Joseph and Nixen Voll.
Rams punter Aldo Galvan was the lone member from the U of R to get the nod.
Perry hauled in 26 passes for 511 yards and three touchdowns as the Huskies amassed a 5-3 regular-season record.
Wiebe had 47 solo tackles along with 27 assisted tackles for the Huskies’ defence. He added one sack and a forced fumble.
Jule had four sacks this season — the most in the conference — with Idoko right behind with three. Voll’s three interceptions were tied for second-most in Canada West this season. Joseph had seven pass breakups while appearing in seven games this season.
The Huskies’ season came to an end Saturday after a 40-17 semifinal loss to the U of A in Edmonton.
Galvan averaged 45.8 yards on 27 punts in six games this season as the Rams (1-7) failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The Canada West awards are to be handed out later in the week.
The 86th Hardy Cup will feature the Thunderbirds against the Golden Bears on Saturday in Vancouver.
