Six youths and three adults have been charged so far after a four-month-long investigation by Regina police into a gun trafficking operation.
Police said Wednesday that more arrests are expected after the investigation by the Crime Reduction Team.
“The investigation began in August of this year, after officers learned of activities related to illegal firearms transfers originating in Regina,” a police release said.
“Several rural RCMP detachments, the Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) and the Provincial Chief Firearms Office all assisted in the investigation which spanned the province, including the City of Regina, northern Saskatchewan and communities in the province’s southeast.”
According to police, the investigation found “multiple unauthorized transfers of firearms” going back to June of this year.
Police said a 38-year-old man and a 22-year-old man had been charged with various gun-related offences. The release didn’t provide any more details on the people who were charged, including the six youths.
