The light at the end of the extremely cold tunnel that all of Saskatchewan has dealt with appears to be getting brighter.
Now that the weather is getting nicer, more families appear to be taking advantage.
Optimist Hill and the Meewasin skating rink in Saskatoon are reaping the benefits of families who may have begun going stir crazy after being confined to their house.
Jessica Olver said it was nice to be able to get her kids outdoors after the cold last week canceled their plans.
“Today my kids are doing ski lessons at Optimist Hill,” said Olver. “Last weekend they were canceled.”
Olver said that she worked around the extreme cold and even found some moments for her kids to go outside to get some fresh air.
“We just hung out at home and played games and watched movies,” said Olver. “I actually did make them go outside everyday, the most they went out was for 20 minutes, cause I wanted them to at least get a little fresh air.”
Not everyone stayed at home however, as Chance Little explained that he and his family took a little trip.
“We went cooped up in our ice fishing shack,” said Little. “Everything’s been nice out on the lake.”
Little explained going ice fishing allowed for his kids to do other winter activities as well.
“The kids go skating out on the ice,” said Little.
Despite being able to remain active over the extreme cold spell, Little said he’s glad it’s warmed up.
“Finally ready to come on outside and enjoy the sunshine,” said Little. “It’s nice to get the kids out.”
Michelle Kalnicki also shares the same happiness for the warmer weather as it allows her to take her children outside.
“We’re excited to finally take in some activities. This is the first day we’re doing snowboard lessons,” said Kalnicki. “They were anxious to get out.”
As for the weather it’s only supposed to get warmer the further we head into next week.
