While many are enjoying the warm weather pushing temperatures well above freezing this week, outdoor skaters are struggling to find any ice.
On Thursday, the Provincial Capital Commission announced that the Rink on Wascana and its warming facility will remain closed for the remainder of the season, and the boards will be removed on Thursday.
“The rink closure is due to the melting ice surface and potential public safety risks,” the provincial government explained in a news release.
Jenna Schroeder, executive director of the capital commission, said there’s still plenty to do at Wascana as the Frost Regina festival continues.
“We are disappointed to close the rink but remain committed to providing a safe and enjoyable Frost experience,” Schroeder said in a statement.
“I encourage everyone to visit the Wascana hub this weekend to enjoy the beauty of Wascana Centre and the fun, free activities we have planned.”
