Regina’s oldest running winter festival has returned for another year.
The Wascana Winter Festival, formerly known as Waskimo, is back for yet another year of festivities. This year’s festival will span a total of four days, beginning on February 16 and ending on February 19. The four day event has countless activities planned for each day.
On Friday the festival kicked off with an announcement by the Regina Symphony Orchestra and the Wascana Winter Festival on their upcoming concert, “Li’l Shad: A Story of Ujjma”. The Snowbirds were also planning to conduct a fly-by at noon.
Day 2 of the festival will be a magic brunch. If you’re a retired RCMP, Armed Services, or Federal employee member, you are qualified for the Magic and Music Brunch. The evening will feature magic by local magician Will Leach. In addition to the magic, the Regina Jazz Society has chosen musicians from its local talent pool to entertain attendees at the event.
Day 3 will feature an extensive list of different outdoor activities for the whole family, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Legislative Building. Some of the activities participants can expect are sleigh rides, readings from Saskatchewan writers, snow cricket, cross-country skiing and tours of the Legislative Building.
Day 4 is the final day of the festival and will see the Regina Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players perform in the afternoon at the Holy Rosary Cathedral. The concert will be a family-friendly, narrated musical performance of “Li’l Shadd: A Story of Ujima,” created in partnership with the Saskatchewan African Canadian Heritage Museum. The two free concerts will take place at 1:00 and 2:45 p.m.
Wascana Winter Festival is Regina’s oldest running Winter Festival, running for over 40 years.
