As much as the NBA Finals should be must see TV, the league didn’t do themselves many favours with the schedule. The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated Boston in the Eastern Conference Finals on Thursday night.
Here we are on Wednesday of the following week with no game one until tomorrow.
Will people even remember the NBA final is on? Talk about taking your product and vanishing off the face of the earth.
There was tonnes of hype about the series when LeBron and the Cavs advanced. But all of a sudden that hype has turned into a whisper.
Why the NBA took a week off is beyond me as getting this series started as quickly as possible would have taken much better advantage of all that hype from last week.
Compare what the NBA did to the NHL. The Penguins and Senators also wrapped up their series on Thursday and all you had to do was wait three days before the Stanley Cup Finals got started. The momentum of the playoffs continued.
The NBA hit the emergency brake and it will be interesting to see if the out of sight, out of mind theory impacts the interest in the ultimate grudge match for NBA glory.
