As the first round of the winter storm system struck Saskatchewan, the province prepares for more snow throughout the weekend.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Shaer explained that the system is developing as they expect.
“The system is showing up today and it is going to be continuing tonight into tomorrow (Sunday),” said Shaer.
There may be some breaks in the action for those who want to clear their driveway, but Shaer said the breaks won’t be long.
“It’s pretty much a full weekend event for Saskatchewan,” said Shaer.
The central part of the province may be getting off lucky compared to the southern part, as Environment Canada predicts that Regina will be hit harder than Saskatoon.
The reason behind this is because the storm system has two different impulses of weather developing.
“The first one is what we are being affected by now,” said Shaer. “Then another area begins to develop on Sunday and that’s toward the Southeast part of the province.”
Over a foot of snow is expected to fall across the province by the end of Sunday.
In Saskatoon the storm is expected to slow down, and begin to dissipate by Sunday night where as Regina is expected to feel the effects of the storm system well into Monday.
