A long-running summer festival will return to the Queen City in 2025.
The Regina Folk Festival, which had been plagued by financial struggles, will be able to return in the summer of 2025 thanks to support from government, local organizations and individual donors.
According to festival organizers, the 53rd edition of the festival will run from Aug. 8-10, 2025 “with an updated format that is sustainable and reflective of the beautiful community we’re in.”
Organizers said they recognize the need to change, so 2024 will be a ‘fallow year,’ allowing the festival to gather resources and rebuild.
“In lieu of a festival, we will be presenting an extra special concert series throughout 2024,” the organizers wrote in a media release.
“We’re scheming to bring you excellent experiences and look forward to swaying together soon.”
More details on the 2024 concert series are to be announced at a later date.
According to the release, any ‘You Had To Be Here’ tickets purchased last year will be honoured at the 2025 festival “along with some extra special perks!”
Organizers also put out a call for donations, sponsorship and volunteers to help ensure the festival can continue to operate well into the future.
“Since 1969, the Regina Folk Festival has relied on the strength of our community,” the release read. “Now, we’re calling on you to ensure the festival stays strong for another 50 years. We can’t do it without you.”
