Spring is finally here. You can feel it in the air, see it in the lack of snow and, in Regina, you can taste it.
For many people, the first sign that spring has arrived is the opening of the Milky Way ice cream shop.
For years, the business has made a habit of opening sometime before Easter, and every time it does, it’s met with dozens of people waiting at its windows. This year was no different.
The business made its official opening on Tuesday at 11 a.m., and according to one of its Facebook posts, there were people lined up at the window before that.
The business was a passion project between Anne Boldt and her husband, who opened the business for something to do in the warmer months of the year before they would travel south in the winters.
Anne said people will brave any weather to be there for their opening.
“Even with cold weather like this, people still show up, and they’re still happy to see us, and we’re happy to see our customers come back,” she said.
“They just say, ‘We’re so happy you’re back and we’re so happy we can have our first treat of the year.’ ”
She said they have had a great time running the Milky Way business and being a part of the community.
“This is a family business, and we all have had lots of fun running it,” Boldt said. “We’ve been here for 44 years, so we feel that we’ve had a big success running this business, and we’ve had wonderful staff. We are very lucky to have such wonderful staff.”
Now that spring is here, they intend to stay open from now until October.
