Two men reportedly died Wednesday while in custody at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert.
Inmate Daniel James Tokarchuk, 44, was rushed to hospital around 4:30 a.m., where he died. Prison officials have not released any information on the cause of Tokarchuk’s death.
According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Tokarchuk was convicted of second-degree murder in 2004 in the death of his friend Trevor Savoie, a known associate of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.
Corrections officials also reported the death of 37-year-old inmate Christopher Van Camp.
Van Camp was three years into a five-and-a-half year sentence for armed robbery and fraud among other charges when he died.
Corrections Canada reported that emergency services were called to try and help Van Camp, but he couldn’t be resuscitated.
Officials have not said if the two deaths are related.
Investigators have determined that Van Camp’s death is suspicious, but have not released anything further on Tokarchuk.
The deaths of Van Camp and Tokarchuk come just under two weeks after the death of another Saskatchewan Penitentiary inmate, Curtis Robert Cozart.
Officials have since determined that there was no foul play involved in Cozart’s death.
