Saskatoon police have saved a life thanks to a new anti-overdose kit at their disposal.
According to a news release, officers were called to a home on 6th Street East near Lansdowne Avenue Wednesday evening, where they found a 19-year-old man unresponsive after taking fentanyl.
MD Ambulance hadn’t arrived yet, so the officers successfully used a naloxone dose, which led to the man regaining consciousness.
Police started carrying naloxone, a drug designed to prevent or reverse the effects of opioids as an emergency measure, at the end of April.
This was the first recorded use of the kits for Saskatoon police.
The man was taken to hospital. No details were provided on his current condition.
No charges have been laid.
Police encourage people to call 911 in medical emergencies without fear of criminal charges.
