Watching greatness is what draws people into sports.
Watching Sidney Crosby has been especially amazing in over a decade.
Crosby was heralded as the next one when he was 15. The young man didn’t crack under the pressure. Instead he became the leading scorer in junior hockey and player of the year in the QMJHL. He won a gold medal with team Canada in the World Juniors.
Since being drafted #1 by the Penguins he has won three Stanley Cups, been named playoff MVP twice, league MVP twice, Canada’s athlete of the year twice. He’s also won two Olympic gold medals, World Championship and won the World Cup of Hockey this past fall.
Yes, there are those who label him a whiner and the league gets criticized for allowing him to get away with bouncing P.K. Subban’s head off the ice or slashing the top of Marc Methot’s finger off.
But set that aside, there should be no question he is still the best player in the world.
And with Crosby only turning 30 this summer, I don’t think this will be his final time accepting the Cup from Gary Bettman.
