Jamie Nye: Feeling no sympathy for U.S. Open whiners

Nice to see some professional golfers are acting like crybabies ahead of the U.S. Open once again.

The annual storyline is usually about how difficult the course plays. High rough, quick greens and high scores.

But thankfully Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy and others are willing to call their fellow golfers out at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

When you see how high the rough is, it’ll remind you of a ditch in Saskatchewan that hasn’t been mowed for months. However, that rough is well left and right of the fairways.

McIlory rightly pointed out the best golfers in the world have about as wide as a CFL football field – that’s 65-yards to hit the ball. For pros, that shouldn’t be too hard.

Now, I’m not the biggest fan of the U.S. Open. I’d rather see courses set up for birdies in eagles to win, rather than who pars the course.

But, the tournament will still be won the same it is during all other major golf tournaments: the best player that week will win, no matter how high the rough is or how quick the greens are.
