Eight people are facing charges of forcible confinement and assault in connection with an incident which saw one Regina cop shoot another officer.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the area of Fourth Avenue and Robinson Street on Thursday afternoon “after a report that an injured male was being chased by a suspect male.”
The injured man evaded his pursuers, and police found him nearby. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
The investigation led officers to execute a search warrant at a home on Retallack Street on Friday.
While officers were raiding the home, one Regina officer discharged a firearm, striking and injuring officer Sam Kosolofski.
Police described the shooting as accidental, and said it will be investigated by the police service’s Major Crimes Unit. A police watchdog agency, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, will monitor that investigation.

According to an online fundraiser started to help support Kosolofski’s wife and two sons during his recovery, he was left in serious condition and will require surgery.
Eight people, ranging in age from 18 to 47, were arrested during the search, and all eight of them have since been charged with forcible confinement and assault with a weapon. One of the suspects was further charged with aggravated assault.
All eight suspects made a court appearance on Monday, police said.
