Chilly spring weather didn’t stop Moose Jaw Warriors fans from showing support for their team.
On Monday afternoon, scores of Warriors fans gathered on Main Street to cheer on the team as their bus drove by on its way to Saskatoon.
The Warriors are set to play the Saskatoon Blades in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday night.
The bus was met with loud cheering and blaring horns as it drove down Main Street around 1 p.m. on Monday. Many of the fans were wearing their black and red jerseys and gear.
Johnny Iatridis has been a Warriors fan for 40 years – as long as the team has been in the city. He said the event was put together to show how appreciative the community is of the team and the players.
“It’s exciting, and I mean you do the best you can – that’s all you can hope for,” Iatridis said.
The series has been a thrilling back-and-forth battle so far, with five games going to overtime.
“It’s actually a shame one of these teams has to lose, but I hope it’s them that lose and not us,” Iatridis said.
He said he’s definitely looking forward to Game 7.
Jaysen Thiele has been able to catch most of the games, and said he has a feeling that the Warriors will pull off a win on Tuesday.
“I’m anxious, because it’s going to be a tough game. I feel like (the refs) have missed a lot of the calls they should’ve gotten, but hopefully we should be able to get it though,” Thiele said.
Kelly Manz-Spearchief has been enjoying the close series.
“It’s really been good,” Manz-Spearchief said. “We’ve had a lot of close games; overtime almost every game. The boys are doing really good and playing really hard.”
Manz-Spearchief said she’s both nervous and excited for Game 7.
“All the fans are so excited for them (and) the boys are excited. There’s got to be some nerves going into Game 7 in Saskatoon, but I think we can pull it off and we’ll be all there rooting for them,” she said.
