The City of Regina is taking the next step in making the waterslides at Wascana Pool accessible for everyone.
A request for proposals has been issued for accessibility upgrades to “supply, deliver, install and commission a turnkey solution that will improve accessibility to the top exterior platform for the high waterslides.”
The original plan was to have an elevator for the waterslides, and city council set aside $550,000 for it, but council began to waver as the cost ballooned to $1 million, talking about other accessibility improvements that money could be used for.
Last month, council approved $175,000 for an accessibility solution. Anything above and beyond that will have to be paid for another way, such as through fundraising.
The city previously had to make a change to the waterslides after running into issues with pool patrons repeatedly pressing the slides’ emergency stop button.
