As of Thursday afternoon, Environment Canada said there wasn’t enough evidence to confirm a tornado had touched down near Saltcoats the day before.
As storms moved through southern Saskatchewan on Wednesday, a couple tornado warnings were issued for areas around Churchbridge and MacNutt.
Some in the Saltcoats area, southeast of Yorkton, shared photos and a video of a funnel cloud which some said had reached the ground.
In a weather summary, Environment Canada wrote it got reports of two possible events — a funnel cloud and possible tornado near Hendon, and a report of a tornado near Saltcoats.
The summary said, “there is insufficient evidence to confirm that tornadoes have occurred”. But it also said the events would continue to be investigated. Environment Canada made note that its report as wnot necessarily complete or final at that time.
Environment Canada said it’s looking for pictures of the suspected tornadoes or any damage they might have caused. It’s inviting people with such evidence to call 1-800-239-0484 or email storm@ec.gc.ca.
The summary also reported dime, nickel, quarter, loonie, and tennis ball-sized hale across parts of the province — the largest near Insinger.
