Learning how to style a girl’s hair may seem like a daunting task for some men, but some dads are up for the challenge.
At Paramount Day Spa and Salon in Saskatoon, dads (and moms) can take classes to learn how to style their daughters’ hair. During the one-hour session, dads can learn up to three styles or techniques in hair care including braids, curls, and tips on how to comb and de-tangle hair.
Paramount’s senior hairstylist Jillian Stead said the classes are a perfect opportunity for dads to get some bonding time with their daughters.
“It is just a fun thing to do with your kid on Father’s Day,” she said.
“We can start at the very very basics, from hair care all the way up to hairstyles for school, dance, sports.”
Stead said Paramount welcomes dads of all skill levels.
“I do have some dads who are very adequate, who do a very good job and are just looking for that extra little elevation. Maybe pull out some hot tools because their girls are getting a little bit older, to dads that have never held a hairbrush before,” she explained.
Stead said it’s important for both moms and dads to know how to maintain proper grooming habits and how to style different hair lengths and textures.

“We live in a world where everybody is contributing to every part of the household in a different way and it is really nice when we get to bond with our kids in a way that was traditionally more moms and daughters,” said Stead.
“Dads should have the know-how to make their kids look presentable and feel good.”
Stead said dads have been enjoying classes and learning how to make their kids look “cute.” She said it’s a great way for dads to bond and connect with their daughters.
Dads can bring their daughters aged three to 10 for a class at the salon on Third Avenue South this Sunday to mark Father’s Day.
